This necklace is made of an antique Chinese porcelain shard from the Qing Dynasty that has been wrapped in sterling silver. I have used the 10 mm green glass beads from Indonesia that pick up the color of the Asian's robe. The pendant measures 1 3/4” long by 1 1/4” wide. The necklace is 18” around and is finished with a sterling silver clasp. The porcelain shard is in great condition - no cracks. These shards are hard to find with figures on them.
Chinese Qing Dynasty(1644-1911) porcelain was hand painted (therefore, not reproducible) and handed down from one generation to another. It was highly valued world-wide for its quality and workmanship. The shards are the recovered pieces of vases and other objects of art that were destroyed and buried during China's Cultural Revolution. These highly valued pieces were mostly the works of distinguished artists of their time. Most popular, as well as most rare are shards with paintings of people and animals. They cannot be reproduced and there are no duplicates. These pieces are not only valued as a unique piece of jewelry but also a valued piece of art.
