This great lithographed box is marked: California Perfume Co. ; New York, Montreal. The company later became Avon. The box originally contained vanity products for children. The design is a suitcase and has great pictures of Jack & Jill, of nursery rhyme fame, going up the hill on the front and down the hill on the back. Background color is pumpkin orange, the colors are across the board and the images are darling. It measures just under 4" by 6" and 1 1/4" thick. Condition is pretty good with appropriate age related wear; hinge is great; interior looks rusted but is not, it is gold in color. Also inside is a curious thing; pasted onto the metal is a prescription from a Paso Robles, Ca pharmacy dated 1932. The name is the same as the person who wrote their name on the front of the box which is still there. Please see all pictures; it is a great collectible for many reasons, and alot of fun.
