We are very pleased to offer for sale this beautiful, vintage 20" Betsy McCall doll made by American Character and dating back to 1959. The doll was made of a wonderful creamy vinyl and has a soft vinyl poseable head and strung arms and a hard plastic body and legs. She has big clear flirty eyes, long rooted curled lashes and terrific facial paint with full dark pink lips, vibrant blush, delicately painted brown side lashes and smoky shadow with slightly curved eyebrows. Her hair is full and thick in a honey colored blond and seems to be in the original set. She has been redressed, but the dress is very similar to her "Sunday Best" ensemble. The dress is in a dotted pink cotton with a fitted bodice and full skirt. The bodice has beautiful white lace trim over the shoulders and arms and a pink ribbon sash belt that ties into a bow in the back. The skirt has a trim all around about two inched above the hem. The trim is white lace with a pale blue ribbon run thru it. She has lace trimmed white panties and matching slip, white socks and tie white felt shoes with a circle of blue beads accenting each shoe. She completes her outfit with a natural half wide brimmed straw hat adorned with pink silk flowers. If we didn't know any better we would think this was one of her original outfits, but as there were only 5 outfits made for the doll and they were sold dressed, this is not one of them, but is factory and from the correct time period. The doll is marked with a circle on the back of her head with "McCall Corp. 1958", See photo. She comes from a SMOKE FREE home and will shine in any collection!
