A historic early large Zuni Pueblo pottery Olla. Collected in 1881 by a member of the Southern Pacific Railway survey team, this example of classic period Zuni pottery are now virtually impossible to find. The figurative and symbolic Zuni Pueblo designs are well executed and in good condition, given the age of the pot. The condition issues involve two large cracks on one side of the pot and the chipping and abrasions on the rim from decades of ethnographic use. The pot is however, intact and whole and has had no restorations whatsoever since it was acquired in 1881. The large size, well executed painting of the classic Zuni designs makes this Olla a piece fit for a museum. Great care will be taken in the shipping of this item.
Measuring 11" tall and 13 1/4" wide.
