This is an unusual example of cut steel jewelry. The cuff is hand-made with a more primitive yet modern look than the bangles with neat rows of riveted nail heads. I think a collector would find it a great addition to a cut steel jewelry collection for its uniqueness of design.
There are two rows of polished faceted squares. Each square alternates with two round cut steel studs. All are riveted onto the backing. The cuff’s ends are pointed, an effect achieved by repositioning the square to form a diamond shape.
Size: 11/16 inch wide; 6 inches around from end to end with a 1 inch opening.
Inner diameter is 2-1/4”. My wrist is 6” around, and it fits me, but it would not sit well on a large wrist.
Condition: Good vintage condition. Guessing it is Victorian and not Georgian, but I don’t know for sure.
It is not a bracelet for heavy wear and although there is some flexibility in the metal, gentleness is called off when taking it on and off. Honestly, in my opinion this cuff is more for a collector to display, and occasionally wear.
Cut steel jewelry became the height of fashion in the eighteenth (Georgian) and nineteenth centuries (Victorian) in England and France. The polished silvery-gray jewelry was made to imitate the glitter of diamonds and sparkle in candlelight, and it was a hand-made process that was extremely laborious and time-consuming.
