This antique cut steel bangle has four rows of steel studs and is a sparkly silvery gray. It does glitter in the light, and you can imagine it glittering in candlelight. It is a beautiful piece.
The cut steel jewelry process dates back to at least the sixteenth century and became the height of fashion in the eighteenth (Georgian) and nineteenth centuries (Victorian). The polished silvery-gray jewelry was made to imitate the glitter of diamonds and sparkle in candlelight.
Antique Cut Steel jewelry is very collectible and not easy to find in good condition. Most was made in England or France. The process of hand cutting and polishing each steel stud, then riveting it onto a back piece was extremely laborious and time-consuming.
Care should be taken to keep them dry, as cut steel jewelry is susceptible to rust. which is why the jewelry in good condition is difficult to find today.
Condition: Very good, still bright, no missing steel cuts, push (almost hidden) clasp is secure.
Size: 2 3/8 inches inner dimension by 3/8 inch wide
