So proud to offer one of the most sought after collectible pieces of vintage jewelry – the fabulous Har Cobra Snake Necklace from Har’s wildly popular fantasy jewels collection, 1950s.
The cobra snake is green enameled gold-plated metal, whose surface mimics a snake’s scaly skin. The necklace features aurora borealis lava stones, gem set topaz/amber and pink aurora borealis marquis shaped rhinestones, along with pear-shape and chaton shaped rhinestones. What a creative and unusual collectible piece of jewelry that will be noticed by all, c. 1959
The necklace fastens in front via a push-slot style clasp; conjoining the snake's body. The chain is a thick braided mesh. Gold-plated base metal.
The HAR cobra necklace is never signed, but other pieces of the set (bracelet, earrings) were signed. Sadly, I only have the necklace. But this rare attention-getting necklace is well known to be by HAR, and one of its many book references is from Judith Miller’s Costume Jewelry, p. 143.
History on Har jewelry was found on Illusion Jewels Researching Costume Jewelry. Har was the mark of Hargo Creations, founded in 1955 by Joseph Heibronner and Edith Levitt. It seems the company ceased production by 1968 with the death of Joseph. HAR produced high quality, and very collectible pieces. The most collectible designs include their dragon, cobra, and genie collections.
Roberto Brunialti’s research attributes the cobra Fantasy jewelry to 1959, the same year as the creation of the Har dragon fantasy jewelry.
