Impressive signed Miriam Haskell “Russian gilt” stamped filigree dangle earrings have my favorite Haskell ear back - the Haskell adjustable screw-back. This ear back is affixed to a round metal end with a small central raised circle signed MIRIAM HASKELL (p. 82 & 83 of "Miriam Haskell Jewelry").
There is a detailed description of the manufacture of these beautiful stamped filigree pieces on p. 45 and 46 of "Miriam Haskell Jewelry" by Cathy Gordon and Sheila Pamfiloff, 2004. The authors state that these stamped filigrees were purchased from suppliers in France and Rhode Island and sent to Unida Plating of Providence, RI which used a complicated and proprietary formula and dipping process containing 24-karat gold to create the Russian gold look. This filigree is pictured in the third picture on the top of p. 26.
After Unida plating went out of business, the Haskell company was never able to successfully replicate the unique “Russian gold color”.
The large filigrees dangle from a round domed filigree piece.
Size: 2.25 inches long by 1.5 inches wide
Condition: Russian gilt is golden in color with a light patina, and the adjustable screw back mechanism is secure.
