A graceful, finely carved ebony figure of a Kamba-Kenyan mother and child mounted on a round base. The style and beautiful work indicate the colonial period in Africa. Young Kamban women had shaved heads and wore knee-length skirts. This young mother is kneeling and holding a baby in her arms. Her necklace is made from coiled aluminum wire to simulate a beaded neck ring. The statue plus base is 5 1/4" high; the base has a diameter of 3 1/2". It weighs 102 grams.
