Still in its original box, this battery operated mystery action Western Special Locomotive made in Japan in the 1960s comes with lots of bells and whistles and smoke. I just tested it by putting 3 D batteries in the back compartment and flipping the switch. It rolls along, correcting its direction when it runs in to an obstacle; it makes train whistle noises; the headlight flashes; and periodically smoke pours out of the front stack. It must truly have been wonderful for kids, or adults, in the 1960s.
There is an attachable red plastic snow guard or cow catcher which I took out of its plastic bag for display purposes. The train is all lithographed tin except some hard plastic (yellow) on the middle stack and on the turning wheels on the underside. The train locomotive measures 14 1/2" long with the cow catcher, 4" wide, and 5 3/4" high.
Although it may never have been used, it has been in storage where the train has acquired some light surface oxidation. There is a little oil residue around the front stack; this is the oil that heats up to produce the smoke or steam. Some cleaning will brighten everything up. I cannot include the batteries due to postal regulations.
