A mid to late 1800s Victorian mourning pin, unusual in that it has a hinged dangling bottom half and, in addition to the typical seed pearl embellishment, it has a diamond. The brooch is carved from black onyx and trimmed with 15k rose gold. The back plate and hinge are also gold but the pin stem is steel. The gold is inset with pretty, natural gray-toned seed pearls; an old European cut diamond is set at the bottom of the circle. The back has the original old C-clasp. It is unmarked, typical of antique jewelry, but the gold, pearls and diamond have been tested.

The pin measures 2" x 1 9/16" x 3/8" deep (56mm x 40mm x 10mm) and it weighs 12.9 grams. Condition is excellent. Any light spots are the result of reflections; the onyx is shiny black.
