George W. Shiebler & Co., New York, NY, produced fine Art Nouveau silver pieces of which this child's or christening cup is a fine example. The detailed repousse and chasing work have created a high relief floral pattern. A wide band of daisies and foliage against a textured background wrap around the body of the cup or mug. The handle, designed for a child's grip, has a large scrolling leaf clinging to the upper curve.
The hallmark for Shiebler, sterling and the number 2366 are inscribed on the bottom. The initials M.L. are lightly inscribed on the front under the floral band- not very noticeable. The cup is 3 1/4" high and 3 7/8" across the handle. It is a sturdy 109 grams (3 1/2 tr oz). Little M.L. was gentle or didn't use this cup much because it is in fine condition- just some pinpoint dents on the bottom.
