Bearing the Royal Bayreuth, Germany hallmark for 1900-19 and produced with their excellent standards, this candlestick holder with shield, or chamber stick, looks like a mug or stein with a cut-out. It has been painted underglaze with peasant women carrying baskets and with a village scene in the background ("Brittany Women"). The handle and front of the candle holder have a raised pattern of foliage.
It stands 4 1/2" (11.4cm) high and is 3 3/4" (9.5cm) in diameter. It is in pristine condition.
