Sheer Victorian exuberance is on display in this elaborate posey holder. Hand chased puffy leaves and stems overlap to form the holder with a thick tendril-like loop at the end as the handle. There is a finger ring attached to the tussie mussie by a chain when one needed to keep the hands free. It dates to ca. 1860s. There is no mark for silver content but it tests as sterling.
The holder is 5 1/2" long and 1 1/2" at its widest and weighs 36.2 grams. Alas the pin for keeping the nosegay in place is missing. There is a hole where the pin is inserted. There is an old repair where the holder connects to the handle; it was soldered. Therefore this terrific piece is being offered at a reduced price.
