Sitting on four little cabriole legs, this ca 1900 oval dresser box/casket has very fancy Art Nouveau cut out designs and a hinged lid set with a thick piece of beveled glass held by 40 acorn-shaped prongs. The inside bottom is padded and covered with beige velvet. The metal is gilded brass. The lid does not clasp but depends on its weight to keep it in place. There is a fancy tab of scrolls and a flower to raise the lid. There is a small piece on the hinge which prevents it from opening beyond 90 degrees.
The box measures 3 3/8" x 2 3/8" and stands 2 1/8" high. Weight is 5.2 ounces. Close examination shows that one of the prongs is missing, however someone lovingly painted a prong shape in gold in its stead.
