A late 1800s Victorian era European majolica pitcher in the form of an owl with a twig handle. The owl has nice detail especially the feathers and the eyes. The owl is brown, white, and black. It stands on a base of green foliage. The ample ear-shape handle is branch or twig shaped and is a vivid cobalt blue. The interior is a pale lilac color. The ceramic pitcher is glazed on the bottom and has a blue painted mark as seen in the photo.
It stands 7" tall and is 5" from spout to handle. Condition is really fine, especially for its age and the fragility of majolica--just a little glaze crazing and some tiny glaze skips or losses. It weighs 1 lb 4 oz. This is a great visual decorative piece and it is still quite usable as a jug or vase.
