Sword shaped hatpins reached their zenith in 1894-95: they were passed over for the "dangerously long" pins. This well crafted hatpin has a cross shaped hilt fashioned from 800 silver ( indicating German or Italian manufacture) and inset with Persian turquoise cabochons. The stones are varying shades of blue and blue-green and are bezel set, prong set, and claw prong set. The pin is steel and is inserted into the silver sleeve of the sword hilt.
The pin is 5 1/4" long and the overall length of the hatpin is 6 3/4". Condition is excellent- no cracked stones. There is a little dark corrosion where the pin inserts into the stem.
