A vintage mid 1900s cigarette dispenser made in Japan. The cigarette storage box has beautiful inlay wood work or marquetry which includes a bouquet of flowers on the top. The box sits on a wood platform and a wooden duck or bird stands on a spring-operated rounded log or perch. Slide the top lid open to add cigarettes. Then push down the knob/lever by the bird's feet and a drawer pops open as the bird dips down to pick up a cigarette. Release the lever. The drawer closes and the bird pops up with the cigarette in its beak. The bottom is ink stamped Made in Japan and some Japanese characters.
The base measures 7" x 3 3/4". The height to the top of the bird is 4 1/2". The box measures 3 1/2" x 3" x 2" tall and will accommodate 3" long cigarettes, so probably not filter cigarettes. An unfiltered Camel cig is shown in the photos. It works well and condition is quite good.
