Offered for sale is a delightful oil painting on canvas of a coastal seascape painted by English artist Francis E. Jamieson (1895 – 1950) under one of his many known aliases W. Richards. The painting depicts old fishing boats pulled up to a stone pier, while women clean the days catch.
Francis E. Jamieson was a prolific English painter who optimized his love of the Highlands by depicting them in many of his paintings. His pleasing scenes were much in demand and he was hired by several stores to paint exclusively, however, he developed aliases so as not to be detected by his employers. W. Richards was one of those well-known and documented aliases.
The painting is set into a gilded Rococo frame and signed on the lower right. The painting and frame are in good condition with minor signs of age and loss to the frame.
