Listed for sale is a splendid early 19th century, 1810-20, Coalport Sauce Tureen decorated in their rare Rock & Tree Imari pattern. The cover sports an amazing recumbent lion finial with lion head handles decorating the sides gilded to perfection.
The amazing clarity of Coalport’s enameling, still resplendent after 200 years, is a testament to the genius of Rose’s alchemistry and an example set for all British tableware manufacturers that came later. This little jewel is in mostly pristine condition except for slight wear to the gilded rim where the cover sits atop the base, the rims, and lion handles, and a small tight hairline that runs about an inch from the rim.
Size: 6” Height by 7 ¼” Length.
