Listed for sale is an exceptional pair of period Sheraton lacquered armchairs. This near pair features fluted and carved crest rails over wide panels decorated with raised foliate. The pierced diamond shaped back splats with Prince of Wales feathers, are typical of late 18th century chairs of this era and style. The open arms have curved supports and rest atop padded seats. The front seat rails are carved and supported by tapered legs that are fluted.
The chairs are lacquered in an ebony finish with gilded highlights on the carved elements. They are of petite size, typical for 18th century chairs, which were made to accommodate smaller framed people. They are both in excellent age appropriate condition, newly upholstered in exquisite damask that looks stunning on the chairs. The surface has the aged patina of older painted finishes desirable in pieces of this age, and the front legs have been reinforced for strength. These chairs represent the English Sheraton style at its very best and are a superb find for collectors wanting period furnishings.
