Presented for sale is a 19th century Rococo period Meissen porcelain basket. The serpentine-formed basket is raised on vine stump legs with a reticulated center and handle, hand painted with vignettes of birds on a mint green background. The basket is heavily encrusted with various flower forms strung as garlands and wrapped around the edges and sides. The detail is nothing short of magnificent.
Sculpting flowers was a tedious and time consuming task and only a few porcelain manufacturers excelled in this technique, Meissen perhaps being the forerunner. This basket is a fine example of the talent and creativity of the Meissen artists.
The basket is in very good condition with minor restorations to flowers.
Size: 12 ½” Width by 10” Height.
