Offered for sale is a 19th century German commode, decorated in hunt scenes with Intarsia inlay. The chest is of Bombe form with three drawers raised on splayed legs.
Intarsia is the process of inlaying material in a solid surface such as wood to create a pictorial pattern. The pieces are cut to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, which often creates a three-dimensional effect. The practice found its way into Germany as early as the 16th century.
The commode is in very good age-appropriate condition with minor scuffs to wood surface and some small missing pieces of inlay. The size is perfect to use in a small entrance way or vestibule.
Size: 33” Height by 34” Width by 16” Depth.
