Presented for sale is an exquisite pair of German porcelain chocolate cups or Pots de Créme with covers, decorated by Georg Heufel & Co. in hand painted panels of flowers and raised giltwork. The cups are raised on animal paw feet with twisted snake handles decorated in gilt. The covers are domed, with a finial. The workmanship is outstanding and the porcelain set is in all likelihood Meissen blanks.
Georg Heufel & Co. was a Dresden decorating shop founded by its namesake around 1891. He decorated porcelain blanks in the style of Royal Vienna and Meissen. Extremely talented in both decoration and repair, he immigrated to the United States in 1901 where he worked for Lenox Inc.
The cups and tops are each in excellent condition, with some very minor paint loss and a paint "smudge" to the inside of one cover. They make an outstanding display as cabinet pieces.
Size of Cup With Cover: 4 ½” Height.
