Offered for sale is an exquisite shield shaped George III Adam's style gilded wood and "carton pierre" mirror with bracket shelf. The frame is crested with a neoclassical urn flanked by Gryphons holding draped garlands in their mouths. The base of the frame holds a serpentine shaped shelf which terminates in Prince of Wales feathers and drapery.

Carton Pierre was a process introduced by English cabinetmaker, John Linnell in the 18th century, that used a form of papier mache that was easily formed and molded to resemble intricate carving.

The mirror is in very good condition with indiscriminate restoration to some of the gilded drapery. The beveled mirror remains spotted to showcase it's wonderful age and patina.

***Professional crating or hand delivery is highly recommended for this piece.

Size: 41" Height, 18" Width, 7" Depth.
