Offered for sale is a 19th century French Majolica covered tureen in basket form featuring hatching chicks on the lid. The basket is shaded in greens to browns and the chicks are shown in various forms of hatch with the broken eggs scattered nearby. French artists typically used nature to showcase forms of food, which has been done in the most charming of ways.
The tureen is in very good condition with minor restoration to one of the eggs. This is quite a hard-to-find ensemble and is perfect for display and to be enjoyed by collectors of Victorian-era Majolica. Unmarked as shown.
Size: 10” Length by 7” Height.
