Presented for sale is a late 18th century to early 19th century oil on board of a floral still life inset into an oval frame. The painting features the Venetian quasi-impressionistic style of Francesco Guardi to which the painting is attributed. Done in the Old Masters style of which Guardi was a follower, the painting emphasizes an abundance of flowers in a woven basket set upon a table against a partially cloudy sky. A parrot sits in front of the basket.
Francesco de Guardi (1712 – 1793) was an Italian painter born into nobility and a student of Veduta (Vistas). He was influenced greatly by Canaletto and the Dutch Masters. His work has often been called spirited and his use of color brilliant.
The painting is in excellent condition and signed on the verso in pencil. The frame has had areas of restoration but appears to be quite old if not original; it's been mounted on a backing structure for strength.
