Offered for sale is a delightful late 19th century reverse painting on glass depicting two Percheron horses standing in the foreground of a hilly pastoral landscape. The painting is whimsical and “oh so charming” as the horses appear to be almost cartoonish. The artist was certainly skilled, reverse painting is very time consuming and intricate.
The painting is in excellent condition with a small amount of paint loss (seen only upon close study) to an area slightly below the flock of birds and above the trees. The work is housed in a more recent complimentary frame and is signed in the lower right hand corner slightly under the frame.
