Presented for sale is a set of 8 early 20th century hand painted Chinese Export style Armorial plates produced in France by Edme Samson. Each plate is painted with a different Family's Heraldic Crest. The plates are bordered in cobalt bands interrupted with floral vignettes.
The firm of Edme Samson or Samson, Edme et Cie, was founded in Paris in 1845 with the intention of making replacements for valuable art on display in museums. Eventually he became known as the "great imitator" as he copied many original pieces of Sevres, Meissen, and Derby, to name a few, as well as the Chinese Exports. His work is now collectible on its own merit.
The plates are in excellent condition and perfect for cabinet or shelf display.
Size: 9 1/4 Diameter.
