Offered for sale is an enticing well-cast vintage bronze bust depicting French actress Mademoiselle Lange after the original bust by Emmanuel Villanis, 1858 - 1914. She is shown in a coquettish pose rendered in a full bust size and wearing the hat she made famous in her 1793 adaptation of the play Pamela. For that role, Lange wore a straw hat that became known as chapeau à-la-Pamela, and she is credited with popularizing that style of hat, which was worn in one form or another through the early 19th century.
The bust is in excellent condition, signed and titled. The features are well defined and the casting is quite exceptional. The bronze is mounted on a marble base and is about 60 - 70 years of age.
Size: 26" Height.
