Presented for sale is a small charming English pastoral oil painting on canvas by Shropshire artist, Edward Lloyd (1818 – 1901). The painting depicts a collection of adorable animals, donkeys, a swan, ducks, and birds shown in a field set beside a pond.
Lloyd had close associations with Ellesmere and the large country estates of Shropshire along the Welsh border. He was known as a competent sporting painter specializing in horses as well as sheep and cattle. His work was often compared to another famous contemporary, Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802 – 1873).
The painting is in good condition with age related crazing to the surface. It is signed and dated in the lower center and set into a period frame.
