Offered for sale is a fine pair of mid 19th century French Regence style diminutive commodes with marble tops. The companion pair (not an identical pair, but with subtle differences) features conforming Italian marble tops over three short drawers flanked on each side with a cabinet door opening to reveal two interior shelves. The commodes are enhanced with marquetry and floral inlays throughout as well as nicely cast escutcheons and pulls.
We adore the demilune shape, it’s beautiful from all angles and easy to walk by (no catching your hip on the corners!) and it’s most unusual to find a pair of this age and quality. They are both in very good condition with notes to the following. One of the marble tops is 1/4" short on the sides toward the back; one of the inside locks is missing from one of the cabinet doors (seen on the inside only) and there have been minor restorations to the marquetry veneer to be expected in pieces of this age. All in all they are both stunning and unusual in their size, worth the minor flaws noted.
Size: 33” Height by 26” Width by 13 ½” Depth.
