Pair of Late 19th C. Samson Porcelain Parrots, Gold Anchor Mark
Presented for sale is a beautiful pair of hard paste Paris porcelain parrots hand painted in fine detail and made by Edme Samson in the style of 18th century Chelsea soft paste porcelain. The birds are even marked with his spurious golden anchor in imitation of Chelsea’s pieces.
Edme Samson was called the “great imitator” for a good reason, he earned that reputation by producing magnificent copies of 18th century pieces in hard paste white porcelain. His pieces were hand painted and highly detailed, often more beautiful than the originals. Samson’s pieces have become very collectible in their own right.
The parrots are in excellent condition and perfect for display on a shelf or table.
Size: 7 ½” Height.
