Offered for sale is a magnificent late 19th century Swedish Gustavian Neoclassical style sofa painted in cream with gilt highlights. The sofa mimics the style of Louis XVI, a style which King Gustav III copied and brought back to Sweden to decorate his grand Neo-classical palace. Unfortunately, the king was assassinated before the palace's completion, but the Gustavian style has endured and become very popular with collectors.
The sofa has a rectangular back with out-swept curved arms. The frame is supported on tapered legs with carved fluting. The sofa has been upholstered in a fabulous striped silk blend that is very lightly used but still in wonderful condition. The sofa has the distressed signs of age so desirable in this style. It is structurally sound and very comfortable.
Size: 96” Width by 32 ½” Height by 30” Depth.
