Presented for sale is an early 20th century Impressionist Seascape by German painter Leo von Konig, 1871 – 1944. Konig was an important member of the Berlin Secessionist group of painters, which included Max Liebermann and Max Slevogt. His masterpieces include portraits of Gerhart Hauptmann and Joseph Goebbels and his paintings can be found in The National Museum of Berlin collection.
The painting is done in the Impasto style on canvas and depicts sailboats moored on a peaceful sea under a lavender sky. The painting is calming and dreamlike, almost something you might remember from a deep pleasant slumber where colors and form bleed into reality to form a pleasant memory.
The painting is signed in the lower left hand corner and set into a custom frame that is more recent. It is in excellent condition.
