Presented for sale is a pair of Vieux Paris porcelain or Old Paris porcelain vases of the Rococo Revival period circa 1860. The vases are decorated on pure white porcelain with hand painted florals front and back and stepped up with gilded highlights. They are of the naturalistic form with free flowing vines and twisted handles.
These vases were popular in 19th century France and usually made specifically for the American market in and around the city of Paris by over 30 different factories. Styles differ from the Neoclassical to the Rococo as wealthy Americans bought them to embellish their large ornate fireplace mantles.
The vases are in excellent condition with most of the original gilding still intact. The floral vignettes are finely painted with nice detail. The shape is perfect for fireplace mantles or narrow shelves as they are rather shallow in depth.
Size: 18” Height by 11” Width by 5” Depth.
