Offered for sale is a Derby Porcelain, 1806 – 1825, Mansion House Dwarf or “Grotesque Punch.” These corpulent figures, originally created by Robert Bloor for Derby, were inspired from a series of drawings by Jacques Callot’s entitled, “Grosteque Dwarves.”
According to historical facts, the figures were actually real-life dwarves who were hired to stand outside of the Mansion House in London wearing advertisements on their large hats. They have been produced by The Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Co., since the late 18th century. The earlier pieces are quite rare and highly collectible.
The figure is in excellent condition with minimal enamel wear.
Size: 6 ½” Height.
