Offered for sale is an exceptional late 18th century William & Mary wing back chair. The chair features a tall narrow arched back centered with an overscrolled crest and flanked by curved wings that sit atop rolled arms. A loose down filled balloon seat cushion adds additional comfort. The chair is raised on block and turned legs connected with an X-crossed stretcher, which indicates a Dutch influence.
The chair is in excellent condition with re-bracing to the stretchers. It has been recently recovered in designer tapestry jacquard that blend with everything and fits the majestic nature of this finely proportioned chair. The chair is festooned with a 19th century silk tassel applique to the base, which was saved from the former cover. Unfortunately, we were not able to salvage the old upholstery as it was too badly tattered.
What we look for in a chair is quality construction and pleasing proportional lines. This chair is a superb example of both.
Size: 52” Height by 33” Width by 26” Depth.
