Presented for sale is a charming 19th century English oil painting on canvas of horse and rider briskly trotting through a rainstorm. The rider is dressed formally in red coat and jodhpurs, with his head bent down against the pelting rain. His sturdy bobtailed horse is trotting with extended outstretched strides to carry his master home.
The painting is inset into a molded giltwood frame and is signed somewhat indistinctly by what looks to be "Clark". The Clarks were a renowned English family of animal painters who flourished in England during the 19th to early 20th centuries. Many of their paintings featured equestrian themes.
The painting is in very good condition with minor in painting.
