Presented for sale is an outstanding painted beechwood, 19th century, Louis XV Canape en Corbeille or chaise with descending serpentine frame of petite size. The hand carved foliate frame continues to padded arms and a scalloped apron raised on five cabriole legs. The three-legs and higher back on one side also indicate use as a chaise.
The canapé is in excellent condition, but unfortunately the ancient watered silk coverings were too frayed to retain. The piece has been recovered in a neutral linen, however, and all the original straw and horsehair stuffing has been kept intact. The worn finish is both stunning and original. The unusual shape and petite size is a form that was seen in 18th century and 19th century France.
Size: 34” Height by 54” Length by 24” Depth.
