Offered for sale is a longcase or "grandfather" clock housed in a dark mahogany Gothic style case with mirror, circa early 20th century. The clock case bears the name "John Wanamaker" on a badge underneath the face. Wanamaker was a department store magnate, credited for opening the first successful department store in Philadelphia, PA. John Wanamaker’s flagship Philadelphia store carried goods imported from all over the world, and he is still considered today as the founder of advertising and a pioneer in marketing.
The clock has a striking movement with five chimes, two weights, and a pendulum, with very fine workmanship on the face. Although the clock purportedly works, we have not kept it running since we acquired it, and should be examined by a clock restorer.
Size: 79” Height by 22 ½” Width by 15” Depth.
