Presented for sale is a magnificent pair of bronze mounted French Sevres style Vieux Paris lamps, circa mid 19th century. The hard paste porcelain body is decorated in their famous “bleu celeste,” with front and back, hand painted pastoral reserves highlighted heavily in gilt. The vases have leafy handles. The vases are mounted on incredibly detailed bronze bases and capped with heavy bronze coronas.
These vases are certainly from the Rococo period between 1840–1860, a time when the Sevres factory was still recovering from the devastation of the French Revolution and under the new guidance of Brongniart. This talented genius lifted Sevres out of the clutches of bankruptcy by introducing production of hard paste porcelain along with more modern designs and a wider range of palettes. During this period, many blanks were sold off and decorated by minor studios as well as Sevres artists who painted their own creations outside the restraints of the factory. Many of these blanks are marked spuriously with the Sevres crossed L’s and are called Vieux Paris Porcelain.
The lamps are in excellent condition with finely detailed paintings by a skilled artist. The bronze mounts are superbly cast and a magnificent accent to show off the beauty of the vases. Our lighting restorer has rewired the lamps and they are now safe to use. They have been fitted with new designer shades.
Size: 29” Height (15” Height of Vases and Mounts).
