Offered for sale is a beautiful late 19th century German porcelain side dish in the style of Meissen (probably a Meissen blank) decorated by the workshop of Helena Wolfsohn. The dish features a scalloped side handle and a rim decorated in a cobalt fish-scale pattern interrupted with floral vignettes. The center of the bowl is decorated with a romantic pastoral hand painted in fine detail.

Helena Wolfsohn owned a porcelain-decorating studio, which began operation in Dresden, Germany, in 1843. During her lifetime, her shop was one of the most prolific decorating studios in Dresden. She did not produce her own porcelain but purchased white blanks from Meissen as well as from other famous porcelain factories. Her mark was often mistaken for one of those factories, especially Meissen. Whether or not this was done on purpose to deceive is still in question amongst historians. However what is not in question, is that she painted pieces of exceptional quality and artistic merit, and that her wares have become collectible in their own right.

The dish is in excellent condition.

Size: 5” Length.
