Presented for sale is a superb boldly-figured English Regency cross-banded Calamander table with D-form drop leaves. The table is fitted with a single locking drawer with a false drawer on the reverse. It is raised on turned legs with brass casters.
The leaves are secured open with wooden hinged brackets. The triple cross-banded inlay is satinwood and mahogany with banding on the drawers.
The table is in very good condition; the top shows slight age-related warping when open, and there have been repairs to the veneer on the table edge and minor replaced pieces of this same edging. The grain is still bold and showy and in handsome contrast to the banding. The leaves do not hang at a complete 90-degree angle when closed because of the slight warping to the wood. We see this not as a flaw but as a testament to its age and authenticity. The Calamander graining and contrasting sandalwood banding are stunning.
Size: 28” Height by 36” Length by 21” Width (leaves closed); 43” Width (leaves opened).
