Presented for sale is a stunning set of 12 early 20th century porcelain dinner plates produced in Paris by Samson et Cie. The plates have fluted basketweave bas-relief borders decorated in gilt-lined panels of grisaille flowers. The grisaille decorated center of each plate depicts a pastoral setting; there are five different scenes. These are each hand painted in monochrome by a steady, practiced hand. On close examination, one can find very subtle variations in the scenes-- we've highlighted two plates bearing the same scene in the closeup photo.
The plates are in excellent condition with very minor gilt wear. They would be perfect for display in a cabinet or shelf.
Size: 10 1/8” Diameter.
