Presented for sale is a beautiful early 19th century English Coalport Coalbrookdale flower encrusted basket with a pierced cover. The basket is handpainted in soft jewel tones with a U-shaped handle covered in foliage.
Coalport produced a range of china known as Coalbrookdale, celebrated for its intricate hand made flowers sculpted in the most glorious detail and delicately muted in rich enamels. These wares were copied after earlier examples from the Meissen factory. Although Coalport continued to make floral encrusted wares into the 20th century, nothing matches the beauty and softness of the earlier soft paste pieces.
The basket is in excellent condition with some discoloration to the interior and minor chipping to some of the flowers tips.
Size: 6 ¼" Height by 7 ¼" Length by 5 ¼" Width.
