Offered for sale is a beautiful Carlton House style desk made during the Edwardian period by Maple & Company of England. The neoclassical painted satinwood desk presents with an upper section containing small drawers and hinged doors revealing side compartments. The leather bound writing surface extends to offer more workspace and is supported on a frieze containing a long central drawer flanked by two short drawers. It is supported on tapered legs lifted on brass castors.
Maple & Company was once a landmark site in London and one of the most prestigious high end furniture retailers and manufacturers in the world. Their high point was in the latter part of the Victorian and Edwardian periods. All of their pieces were made in house and of exceptional craftsmanship and quality; they sold mainly to Britain's elite and serious collectors now seek many of their pieces.
The desk is in very good condition with minor scratches and paint wear commensurate with age and use. This is an elegant piece perfect to sit in the middle of a room and stunning from all angles.
