Offered for your consideration is a 19th century English George Jones Majolica game dish with a liner and a quail on the cover. The base is decorated with green leaves and wheat shafts on a brown ground. The top sports a three dimensional dead quail or game bird lying on a bed of wheat. The purple interior contrasts brightly with the exterior.
The dish and liner are in very good condition with minor crazing to be expected for the liner. The cover has been professionally repaired. These tops or covers were often greasy and hard to hold onto if being used as a dish. Unfortunately, many of the tops were dropped and broken, but the pieces were so wonderful for display that they were lovingly put back together, a fortunate thing for modern day collectors that wish to display the pieces on a sideboard or in a cabinet. It is very rare to find one with its liner.
