Offered for sale is an unsigned Taisho period Japanese double-gourd basket of woven bamboo, cradled in a root-wood vine. The piece is a rich symbol of longevity and good fortune. The large gourd basket has been woven with narrow strips of braided bamboo. These baskets were considered a utilitarian art form combined with the popular pastime of Ikebana or flower arrangement.
The basket is in very good condition and quite a showpiece for a table or shelf.
