Presenting for sale is a late 19th century to early 20th century still life oil painting on canvas by Parisian artist Alfred Arthur Brunel de Neuville (1851 – 1941). The painting depicts a basket laden with grapes along with peaches set upon a slab table. This realistic style was prevalent in late 19th century France and Brunel was known for these traditional works. He was also famous for his sentimental rendition of cats and kittens and other domesticated animals.
He was a prolific painter during his lifetime, and his works were frequently exhibited. His paintings can be found in important museum and private collections.
The painting is in very good condition with a possible restoration to a vertical line barely seen to the left top of the basket, it does not show through on the back. The painting is signed, by the artist, in the lower left hand corner. The custom frame is more recent.
